The communication policy tells you how to ask for help. Some professors want emails with specific subject lines. Others prefer office visits. Following their stated preference makes them much more likely to respond helpfully—and quickly.
Participation expectations reveal the classroom culture. If the syllabus mentions cold calling or Socratic method, prepare to be put on the spot. If it emphasizes discussion, come with questions. The syllabus tells you what "being a good student" means in this particular class.
